CLEANING SOLUTIONS FOR CONTAMINATED COATS

"Our Commitment To Your Pet Lies In The Quality Of Our Care"

¬ĚThe cleaning solutions that you may use will vary depending on the type of contamination.

1. NON-OILY COMPOUND - (E.G. DISINFECTANT SOLUTIONS)

a. Wash from the coat with copious amounts of water.
b. The immediate use of detergents can actually increase the absorption
of the toxic material: they make it fat-soluble, which means that it can
    be absorbed through the skin.

2. LIQUID OILY COMPOUNDS - (E.G. SUMP OIL, CREOSOTE)

a. The most efficient way to remove these is to smear the coat liberally
with "swarfega" (use liquid paraffin or cooking oil if "swarfega" is not
available) and work it well into the hair.

b. The coat must then be washed clean with three or four baths of
detergent in warm water until the smell of the contaminant has
    completely disappeared.

3. SOLID OILY CONTAMINATION - (E.G. TAR)

a. If possible the contaminated fur should be clipped away but often
(especially when paws are affected) the tar has become so closely
attached to the skin that this is impossible.

b. In these cases, liquid paraffin, vegetable oil or butter can be applied
and rubbed well into the area and bandaged to prevent grooming.
c. Solvents such as a mixture of acetone and liquid paraffin are
    sometimes used.

We do strongly recommend that you seek professional help, for all cases of contamination. It is recommended that your pet is seen by us at the earliest, to prevent the problem progressing and causing other complications. Early recognition and treatment means that your pet will recover sooner, and will therefore be far more comfortable. It is not only significantly more difficult to treat a pet in an advanced stage of the disease, as well as far more expensive, but one also has to take into account the significant pain and stress your pet is under by not being treated at the earliest.

Our Mission is:- “To be the premiere pet grooming facility in the community as judged by staff, clients, and peers while exercising prudent financial responsibility on a fair price basis”.

A reflection of our mission statement and how we do manage pets entrusted to our care is a realistic indication that we are not your average pet groomer. We are passionate about the manner in which we care for pets.
